An ancient Biblical blessing:

Blessed is the man who does this, and the son of man who holds it fast, who keeps the Sabbath, not profaning it, and keeps his hand from doing any evil. Isaiah 56:2

What does it mean to bless?

  1. To hallow or consecrate by religious rite or word.
  2. To invoke divine care for.
  3. To confer prosperity or happiness upon.

When did God make the Sabbath?

And on the seventh day God finished his work which he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and hallowed it, because on it God rested from all his work which he had done in creation. Gen. 2:2,3

How long do God's blessings last?

... for what thou, O LORD, hast blessed is blessed for ever . 1 Chronicles 17:27

What does God's blessing bring to us?

He will love you, bless you, and (1) multiply you; he will also bless the fruit of your body and the fruit of your ground, (2) your grain and your wine and your oil, the increase of your cattle and the young of your flock, in the land which he swore to your fathers to give you. You shall be blessed above all peoples; there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle. And the LORD will (3) take away from you all sickness; and none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which you knew, will he inflict upon you, but he will lay them upon all who hate you. Deut. 7:13-15

Notice the three blessings in the above scripture:

  1. God will bless your children.
  2. God will bless you in your employment.
  3. God will give you health and keep you free from disease.

Will God's blessing help me deal with stress?

...May the LORD bless his people with peace! Psalm 29:11

Great peace have those who love thy law; nothing can make them stumble. Psalm 119:165

Will honoring God's Sabbath bring me happiness?

"If you turn back your foot from the Sabbath, from doing your pleasure on my holy day, and call the Sabbath a delight and the holy day of the LORD honorable; if you honor it, not going your own ways, or seeking your own pleasure, or talking idly; then you shall take delight in the LORD, and I will make you ride upon the heights of the earth; I will feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father, for the mouth of the LORD has spoken." Isaiah 58:13,14

...every one who keeps the Sabbath, and does not profane it, and holds fast my covenant--these I will bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer... Isaiah 56:6,7

Besides peace and happiness, what else does God's blessing bring?

The blessing of the LORD makes rich, and he adds no sorrow with it. Prov. 10:22

For to the man who pleases him God gives wisdom and knowledge and joy; but to the sinner he gives the work of gathering and heaping, only to give to one who pleases God. Eccl. 2:26

Are there any conditions on receiving God's blessings?

Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse: the blessing, if you obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day, and the curse, if you do not obey the commandments of the LORD... Deut. 11:26-28

But he [Jesus] said, "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!" Luke 11:28

And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of the LORD your God. Deut. 28:2

... blessed is he who keeps the law. Prov. 29:18

Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the LORD! Psalm 119:1

But he who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer that forgets but a doer that acts, he shall be blessed in his doing. James 1:25

How do I honor the Sabbath of God's law?

Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. ...the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God; in it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your manservant, or your maidservant, or your cattle, or the sojourner who is within your gates. Ex. 20:8,10

When does the Sabbath day begin and end?

...beginning at evening, from evening to evening shall you keep your Sabbath. Lev. 23:32

I want to obey God and keep His Sabbath, but it is does not come naturally for me. It is hard for me to break the old habits ingrained in my mind. Is there any help for me?

For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God's law, indeed it cannot; and those who are in the flesh cannot please God. But you are not in the flesh, you are in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you . Rom. 8:7-9

"This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put my laws on their hearts, and write them on their minds." Heb. 10:16

Will obeying God earn me the right to enter heaven? Or is obeying God a genuine response of love from a heart that truly appreciates the great sacrifice that Jesus made for us?

If you love me, you will keep my commandments. John 14:15

By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. 1 John 5:2,3
